Real wooden blinds offer a great authentic look to your home. They're strong, come in a wide variety of stains and colours, and come with the added benefits of incorporating natural materials into your home. Faux wood blinds are also a great option for creating an authentic look, but without being as vulnerable to the effects of water in the atmosphere as real wood - so which type should you choose? At Direct Blinds we offer around 400 real wood finish options and around 100 faux wood styles. Here we compare the two across all aspects of blind functionality.

A matter of price

The difference in price for a faux wood or real wooden blind is often the deciding factor when choosing. With a faux wood style, the price bracket is often less varied - for example at Direct blinds our faux wood blinds start at around £16, and finish at around £40, whereas our wooden blind range anywhere between £15 and £100.

Faux wood blinds are often a great choice if you need to stick to a stricter budget, or simply want to save a little when decorating your home, whereas wooden blinds give you that extra level of choice when it comes to style and appearance.

Clean is clean

On a maintenance level, there's not really a contest here. Both faux and real wood blinds simply require a dust every now and again. With wooden blinds, you can use the appropriate furniture polish to help remove dust, but on the whole they're both straightforward to clean.

No water worries

The main benefit to having faux wood blinds instead of real wood is that they're less susceptible to water damage than real wood blinds are. A real wood blind that's placed in an area with high moisture levels is more likely to warp. This means that faux wood blinds last a little better in rooms with a high moisture level, such as a bathroom or en-suite.

Fully functional style

Both types use the same quality head rail, bracket and cord control operation systems, meaning they're both as good as each other when it comes to operation and installation.

The real deal

While from a distance you often can't tell the difference between a real wood and a faux wood blind, there's something about knowing that it's the real deal that makes the room feel that little bit more homely. However, the grained effect faux wood blinds can offer more character than the solid painted wood blind finishes - so there's style benefits to be had with both.
