5 tips on how to boost your mood during social isolation

1.Connect with people

Whilst we cannot physically connect to people, we should make an effort to stay virtually connected with our loved ones.

Regularly call your friends and family, do video calls, drink morning coffee together. Each day take time to message or call someone who lives alone to give them some virtual company. If you’re working remotely do a few video calls with your colleagues to update each other on work or just general chat about how your day is going.

2.Exercise

Staying active is very important for our physical and mental wellbeing, so do some exercises. Get into a routine of doing at least one 10-minute workout each day and stick to it.

Find someone who will help to stick to the routine – ask your friends to do a workout together via video call an or if you’re working from home, do it with your colleagues.

Here’re the links to some of our favourite 10-minute workouts:

3.Watch animals

Interacting with or watching animals can help reduce stress and anxiety. If you don’t have a pet at home, why not try some virtual animal experiences to boost your mood.

4.Do some DIY or craft

You finally have time to do some DIY around your home. Paint fence or start sorting you garden declutter, re-organise your living space, change that blind you’ve been wanting to for ages. We’ve got a variety of made to measure blinds in bright and uplifting colours available for express delivery.

If you don’t like home DIY, why not do some crafts to keep your kids occupied as well, here are a few craft ideas made with fabric offcuts: https://www.facebook.com/swiftdirectblinds/posts/2579112972202388
Engaging in DIY will help you to get distracted and take your mind away from a lot of negative news.

5.Get fresh air

Fresh air is important for our blood pressure and heart rate, it also gives us energy and sharpens our mind, which is essential for if you want to stay productive whilst working from home.
Whilst you are not supposed to interact with people outside your household, you can still go for a walk or a jog to a park alone.

If you don’t feel comfortable living your house, open your windows or balcony to let some fresh air inside your living space or spend some time in your garden.
Just remember about a 2-meter distance whenever you’re outside.
